Impact at Bellwether

Empower everyone to sustainably source and roast incredible coffee.

Our vision

Join us in creating a better future for the entire coffee industry, one that is sustainable for the environment, equitable for farmers, and accessible to all communities.

The coffee industry is not sustainable.

  • Current coffee prices don't provide a living income to most of the world’s farmers, causing instability and enduring poverty.
  • The coffee industry creates significant carbon emissions, disproportionately affecting farmers through climate change.
  • Coffee retailers are struggling with low margins, rising labor and supply costs, and limited access to new revenue streams.

To create a more sustainable and equitable coffee industry, we believe:

  • We must pay coffee farmers equitable prices that support a living income, and invest in farm communities where we source coffee.
  • We must advocate for the widespread adoption of electric and distributed roasting to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • We must create access for every coffee retailer to source and roast their own coffee to improve margins and grow revenues.
We can meaningfully reduce the climate impact of the coffee industry by advocating for the widespread adoption of electric and distributed roasting to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Reduce the carbon footprint of coffee roasting
  • Shorten the coffee supply chain
  • Empower coffee retailers to be more sustainable
We can support long term economic health for farmers by paying coffee farmers equitable prices and investing in farm communities where we source coffee.
  • Paying living income‑based prices
  • Building long term relationships
  • Investing in farm communities
We’re removing barriers to roasting so coffee retailers of any size and type can realize the benefits of roasting in house and help create a better, more sustainable future for the coffee industry.
  • Creating equal opportunity for any business to roast their own coffee.
  • Enabling anyone to roast coffee without prior experience.
  • Empowering new roasters with the knowledge and resources to succeed.
